What we believe about ourselves and the life we feel we deserve or can attain is fundamental to our sense of self and our happiness. Over the years, we accumulate a great many negative messages that are reinforced through repetition and act to limit our aspirations and make us despondent.
To overcome this, it’s not enough just to change thoughts. You have to change your beliefs and the best way to do that is through positive affirmations. An affirmation is a positive thought that you can use to help change negative patterns into positive patterns. By saying affirmations aloud, writing them down, and repeating them over and over, you can reprogram your mind. Once you believe your affirmation you can act on it and make it come true.
For example, you may feel you’re not successful in love or personal relationships. That’s a negative affirmation because you believe it, so it sits firmly in the cell memory of your body. However, just like a computer, you can reprogram your belief system. Turn your statement into a positive affirmation in the present tense so that your body can experience the feeling of this new state. Do it now. But don’t assume that the job is done as soon you say, “I am in a successful, loving relationship.” Your mind will battle with this new belief and throw up all sorts of rational reasons why it’s just not true. This is a process and the more you repeat your affirmations and the more comfortable you feel hearing those messages, the more you will begin to respond, and people will respond to you differently.
Be careful what you wish for because you might just get it. Never follow your affirmation with a verbal negation such as, “this isn’t working,” because that will be your affirmation. Bombard yourself with your new belief by repetition. Write it down, carry it around with you, and visualise yourself in this loving condition. Your new belief will gradually replace the old one. You can use this technique for health, finances, career, or anything you feel stuck with. Positive belief is the guiding star to change, and that can be accomplished through affirmations.
